Portal

This game might be the one to make me upgrade systems.

Imminently available for PS3, eh? Looks more and more likely my X-Mas gift to myself this year will indeed be that. Just needed a little extra prodding…

I’m not a huge videogame fan, but I am still kind of enchanted by the Wii. Just out of curiousity — are they easier to purchase in Japan? Or do non-Japanese speakers need a rarer export version?

That’s an interesting question…of which I do not know. But, I’ll check on it.

The Wii I have supports only English, Spanish, and French. So I think the Japanese Wii is probably useless to you, unless you read Japanese. I would bet that it displays the Western games perfectly though, if you could get through the menu, since the Japanese borrow Western words and alphanumerics at will. The next question is if you can get an English localized Wii easier in Japan, being so close to the womb.

Portal looks like a great puzzle/action game. In fact, I can see myself wasting hours upon hours on it. Luckily I don’t have a PS3 or Xbox. The games they have definitely look rich, but Wii still takes the cake for interactivity, and the graphics are very designy. I would say the others have more adult titles.

Kind of the answer I expected, actually.

They’re really kind of anal when it comes to video game consoles and DVD players being compatible between the US and Japan, which has been a bit of a bummer for me.

Unitl recently, that is…the PS3 is region-free for games. Awesome.
