I have vague memories of Howard Johnson’s in the 70s — I believe there was one on the NJ turnpike on the way to my grandmother’s. We definitely made the stop for ice cream. I remember being introduced to Orange Sherbert there. I remember the interior as having a kind of industrial mod vibe with lots of modeled plastic and Muzak. And that orange and blue color scheme which was probably brilliant at one time, but now looks irretrievably dated.
