David Lee Roth Asteroids

I imagine that the soundboard had something to do with this. Beware of Sammy Hagar’s head.

NLM, where I work now, produced this somewhat cool flash piece where you can page through some old medical tomes. My favorite is definitely Conrad Gesner’s Historiae Animalium which has pictures of sea monsters and the above “monkfish.” Ambroise Paré’s Oeuvres also has some curious images of human deformities. There are also jpgs of the plates, but they are not completely consistent with the flash for some reason.

Paul’s Boutique: Age 20

According to Wikipedia, Beastie Boys’ seminal album from 1989, Paul’s Boutique, is getting re-released today after 20 years. Initially considered a failure by the record label, for not living up to the immediate sales that the Beastie Boys’ first album, ‘License To Ill’ did, the album has since sold over 2 million copies by 1999, one of which I bought and relished back in the days. Paul’s Boutique garnered a cult following, spurning even Chuck D of Public Enemy to remark that there was a “dirty secret” among the black hip-hop community at the time of release, that “Paul’s Boutique had the best beats.” Of course, this album would have never been what it was without the amazing, sample heavy music by the Dust Brothers. If you somehow glossed over this album, you should check it out, at last. For the rest of you in the know, take a trip down memory lane.
