Time Travel Mart

Photos from LA’s new Echo Park Time Travel Mart, another fine establishment benefiting the 826 organization. (Next time I’m in Seattle, I must visit the Space Travel Supply company.)

Stupid (fresh) Wii tricks

Johnny Chung Lee shows how to fabricate a DIY whiteboard on the cheap, a pretty wicked head-tracking Virtual Reality system, and a multi-finger interface all with Wii remotes.

The Wii remote as interface has also been co-opted by DJs — check out the DjWiij website and some Wii DJs in action.

Amazing 1967 Velvet Underground bootleg

Found this on the Tape Op message board earlier. Over the weekend a recording of a 1967 performance by the Velvets surfaced. This wouldn’t be much news except that the quality is pretty good and it highlights an absolute scorcher of a song called “I’m Not a Young Man Anymore” which for all intents and purposes hasn’t been heard since the night it was recorded.

Smoke On The Wo-tah

They didn’t have to do it, but I’m glad they did. Smoke On The Water performed with traditional Japanese instruments. Dig that crazy shamisen solo, maaaan.

Profiles of five people who dress in one color all the time. (Although technically you could say Karim Rashid wears two colors.) I am reminded of the character Cayce Pollard, protagonist of Pattern Recognition, who only ever wore black, white and gray, and had to remove every trademark from her clothing.
