50 Craziest Pop Stars Ever
I was thinking Ronnie Spector would make the list but I guess he’s not actually a pop-star.
6 commentsThe Science of Beer Goggles
Many of us have heard of the so-called “beer goggle” effect. It’s the phenomenon that occurs when someone’s had a few alcoholic drinks and suddenly, all of those people who looked semi-attractive on entering the bar look really, really appealing. Scientists have shown that it’s not just a lowering of standards — alcohol actually stimulates the part of the brain that judges facial attractiveness. Read on…

Drugs Mugs

Yup, that’s what I’d look like as a tweaker. (Except that even in the depths of crystal meth addiction, I wouldn’t wear that hat.) This site is convincing kids to stay off the white drugs thru the power of animated gifs – upload your headshot to see how far you’ll fall. I got mine back within a few minutes.

I think Part 2 is a good primer, but you can back up to Part 1 or forward to Part 3 in the Related links sidebar. I guess this kid is autistic or something, but boy does he make a great host. You gotta watch all three parts, as his cooking and impersonations spin out of control.
2 commentsSaturday Afternoon funk: long live the vox box!
I’m watching The Best of Soul Train right now and taking a trip down memory lane. An attempt to share it with y’all led me to the “80′s funk” tag on youTube, which is a total treasure trove:
Shalamar – Playing To Win (1982): Is he a mime? Mimes aren’t supposed to sing, buddy! maybe robo-mimes play by different rules.
Gap Band – Disrespect (1985): Reminds me of Vegtable Soup and the songs at the end of Fat Albert.
Brothers Johnson – Stomp (1980):An actual good song to clear the palate. I always mis-remember this as an Earth, Wind & Fire tune.
O’Bryan – Breakin’ Together (1984): Remember this guy? Me neither. This video is a gem.

Agent 723 and I were in the Village last night, and unexpectedly found ourselves walking through three different news crews—each broadcasting live in front of a darkened store. We paused long enough to see one reporter excitedly gesturing at the glass windows and saying something about rats. That’s when I realized it was the KFC/TacoBell at West 4th (normally brightly lit and busy that time of night)… and knew there was going to be some interesting viewing on YouTube when we got home.
(btw if any other NY’ers were watching local news at 10 pm, I was the guy in the gray/black/red knit hat.)
