(Sitting in) Plastic Chairs

I meant to post this a while back, but I have spent the past few weeks getting over some mutation of the flu that went away like Zeno’s paradox with a sinus infection. The Finnish Embassy in DC has been having really cool exhibits. Last year it was Marimekko, this year it is an exhibit of furniture designed by Eero Aarnio. What makes the exhibit so great is that everyone can admire its aesthetic qualities of the chairs while sitting on them. J-Dogg, 3FJ-Jr and myself went a couple of weeks ago and had the spent a good chunk of the afternoon lounging in the Ball, Pastil and Bubble chairs. If we had been allowed to eat and drink while sitting on them it would have been perfect. Even 3FJ-Jr liked sitting on the chairs even if he couldn’t focus on their high-modern blend of aesthetics, ergonomics and fun. If this is foreign propaganda then I welcome our new Finnish overlords. The exhibit runs until May 8th, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the show takes the road and ends up in other cities too.
3 commentsThe First Frame Off Our New Viewmaster
I remember an episode of either “Wonderama” or “Kids Are People Too” with Cheap Trick. At one point /(Bob Mcallister|Michael Young)/ asked the band where they got their name. They said they were using a ouijia board and C-H-E-A-P-T-R-I-C-K turned up. I thought that was so cool. It didn’t convince me to buy their viewmaster reels though. It seems like they would be perfect to look at while listening to their cover of “Ain’t that a Shame” on their Live at Budokan album; timing each new frame with the music. There is also supposed to be a Resident’s viewmaster set. The Residents, Cheap Trick and Kiss would be a formidable lineup indeed.

Its not exactly safe for work, but it is a funny quick read. I hope the author meets up with Ms. Coulter again before the site gets pulled down for whatever reason; like the whole liberal communist intraweb linking to it.
