The Gates + Snow

The first time I saw The Gates, I thought “this would look amazing in the snow.” Sunday night, 3 inches of snow fell on NYC; Monday was a holiday. I got my wish. (Having a head wound and two black eyes was not part of the wish, but it was literally a once-in-a-lifetime thing; Tuesday was in the 40s again.) It was really beautiful – like everything in the world was only black, white, and orange. I ended up walking from the south end of the park to the north end – 59th st. to 110th. These pictures don’t really capture the experience, but here they are anyway.

(Admin, thanks for the help with exhibit – and let me know if posting a whole freakin’ roll of film with it is a bad idea.)

The Pizza Man Always Rings Twice

Pretty entertaining story on making it as a Pizza Guy.

For three nights in a row, I had this side-door delivery on Portland Avenue. They were just really tweaked-out dudes. One guy was always shirtless, and he was just fucking skeletal. It was like you could see his skull. The other guy seemed a little more together. The kitchen had a shitload of dishes and reeked of rotten food. You see that once in a while–young guys living alone who are super depressed. But this was beyond that. In the middle of the floor, there was a big hole that went straight through to the basement. They had to walk around it to get to the door.

There’s more anectdotes like this up to the end. I’m suprised no group like the Beastie Boys has done a song about Pizza Guys; they seem to forever elude mass culture’s respect. You’d think someone would at least have written a movie like Clerks. Also, according to these guys, I’m a rather substandard tipper. I just figured it was around 20%, like a waitperson.
