Billboard Enflames Viewer’s Sensibilities


In NYC this past weekend, 3FJ and I were stunned by these billboards all over the city. It’s hard to believe nobody at cingular made a remark about a possible association with the twin towers burning, leaving one to wonder what cingular’s motivation for running the ad is. I took a pic of one, but didn’t get it off my camera yet. This is from another blog.

I’m not saying the Japanese are uptight, but when I came upon this diagram in my study of the language, my brain just started turning to mush. No, it’s more a comment on the textbook which I’m studying. You have to see the whole chapter to appreciate the enormous collection of diagrams, which supposedly “explain” Japanese social hierarchy, in relation to verb usage. Just try to follow this one, for a taste. Yeah, you can do it, but did you really learn anything?
